People Annoy Me
Yet again, it's another shipping problem. Unlike many people, when I have a recurring problem, my first question is: "Is this my fault?" Obviously if something bad happens over and over again with different customers, the fault must be mine. So I've been doing some soul searching over my shipping problems.

But I just cannot take responsibility for this:

When you order from my website, on the confirmation page right before your card is charged, in bold letters it says: "Please allow 7-10 days for delivery to the Continental US and 4-6 weeks for international orders. If you need your items sooner, please contact us at info@reconstructinghistory.com for expidited shipping options."

I have now had two international customers place an order (and therefore been charged $10 for shipping) and then write to me and say, "I cannot possibly wait four weeks for my order. Is there any way to ship my order sooner?"

Sure there is. I write back and tell them about US Priority Mail, US Express Mail, and FedEx Express Service. I quote them prices based on the weight of their parcel and give them special links whereby they can pay the extra shipping charges. Usually this goes quite smoothly.

However, if you do not respond and do not send payment for one of these expidited options, you are NOT allowed to email me in two weeks and demand where your order is!

Guess what. Last week I got an email from the most recent customer to ask about expidited shipping (and not choose any of the options) and demand to know where her package is. How am I supposed to know, sweetheart? You didn't pay for a shipping option that includes tracking!

And no, I will not refund your money for this order. There was absolutely no reason for you to expect the order in two weeks. You asked about this when you placed the order and you were told how you could get the order earlier than four weeks. It is now on its way to you. If I refund your money, do you promise to send the order back to me as soon as you receive it? Didn't think so...

Ten dollars is not enough to cover a one-pound package at regular (not Priority) US airmail rates. But if an international customer doesn't pay for another service, I tend to send their package airmail anyway, thereby taking a loss on the postage. But I certainly will not rush to the post office to ship your package if you haven't paid for expidited shipping. Why should I? Why shouldn't I wait until I have a bunch of international packages to go and take them all at once? I can only assume that you weighed the cost of expidited shipping against your need to have the order sooner and decided you can wait the four weeks after all.

In other words -- the website says 4-6 weeks. That means 4-6 weeks unless you're willing to pay the shipping charges. You don't get expidited shipping because you're a speshul snowflake and think that your fabulous Europeanness makes you entitled to faster shipping. You bitch and whine and moan and do nothing but abuse my services, and you actually expect me to go above and beyond for you?

No, cherie. Pas ce chiot.

Why?
Why have I just spent a half hour on the phone with you and missed two or three calls possibly from paying customers while you read out to me the email that I sent to you yesterday asking for the same thing I asked for two weeks ago and never received? Why am I paying for this call? Why should I sit here while you look up in your computer whether you have the things or now?

Bloody hell...
