Taking a break?
Good Lord! How do you do this "taking a break" thing? I'm trying. I swear to God I'm trying! But how is a girl supposed to take a break and not be bored our of her skull? I can only soak in the bath with P.G. Wodehouse for so long!

What I really want to do is sit in front of the TV and vegetate. I just want to be mindless for a little while. I want to watch a nice movie or TV show and relax. I don't want to be annoyed by stupid reality TV. I don't want to be bothered by biased news reports. I just want to watch a nice fluffy 1930s quasi-musical -- perhaps a Fred and Ginger movie -- or a screwball comedy and relax and smile. I want to take a bloody break!

But look at my options today:

Sci-Fi -- "The Outer Limits" - the crappy 1980s version. The only reason you watch this is to laugh at the clothing and hairstyles. Of course it's a marathon. No hope of relief until 4pm.

TCM -- one good 1930s comedy at 9am, then the rest of the day is "Crime Dramas" from the 1950s. You know what that means? Film noir. Bloody stiff-jawed Sam Spade-ish male leads surrounded by helpless females. God, save me from this torture! Give me a Nick and Nora movie any day.

Bugger.

Every other channel is sports, reality, pseudonews, or some other stupidity. Don't even tell me to watch some soppy TV movie on WE or some shit. Because I will kill someone.

I think I'm going to go draft a pattern...

Oh my God! It's like TCM reached into my brain and made a movie. Our Blushing Brides. It's one of Joan Crawford's early movies (1930) and it's hard to recognise her at all. It's about three roommates who work at a department store.

The first scene has the Floor Manager telling the shop girls that they need to do a fashion show for a woman picking out her bridal trousseau.

The next scene is a parade of gorgeous 1930s lingerie! Even in low-quality black and white, I'm just melting. Silk and lace. Cocoon penoires. Such gorgeousness!

And the hair! I need a Marcel wave...

EDIT: Oh my God! This whole movie is just one fashion show after another. Now they're doing
"Summer Sportswear". I love it!

Why can't TCM have a 1930s Fashion Show Movies Day instead of starting the 1950s Crime Dramas in an hour, achone achone!

This is important!
This is my dear friend, Cyd. Please read her post today: http://faireraven.livejournal.com/563707.html

If you have only two dollars, please give one to the cause. It is a dreadful disease, a disease that can strike down the young and healthy in the prime of their lives through no fault of their own.

You know I'm not preachy... Okay, I AM preachy, but only about costume topics. I would just like you all please to think about donating to the MS Walk.

I'll love you forever if you do plus it's tax deductible!
