Bugger
If you get an email from me trying to sell you Canadian pharaceuticals or Rolex watches, do not worry: I have not gone crooked.

My historian email address has been cloned.

For the past hour, I have been receiving 20-50 bounced email messages every five or ten minutes from email addresses where the spammers failed. But they're coming back to my email address because they've done a "reply-to" and used my address.

Bugger.

So if you get spammed with tons of messages from me, please know that it's not me. And I'm sorry but I can't do anything to stop it now. The damage has been done.

My ISP sucks.

NOTE: This does not affect the security of the website in any way. It's a totally different server managed by a completely separate, competant company.

Me too. I just checked and had about 365 of the 'undeliverable' messages caught in my spam filter, with another 60 that had leaked through into my inbox. Not good. I've been hatin' on my ISP for a while now, so maybe I'll finally shop for a better one. Sorry you're having the troubles too.

FWIW it's not your ISP's fault. Spammers can harvest addresses off of all sorts of places, from Yahoo groups to web pages and your ISP has nothing to do with it. My address gets hijacked so often that I don't even bother to count. The ISP that's the problem is the spammers ISP that allows for spoofed headers but you can't do anything about that and neither can your ISP.

As I am learning, it isn't your ISP that is the problem; it's the ISP of the spammer allowing that, that is the problem.

And I have had it happen to me about a month ago.

At least you do have your web site still... I have to wait until Monday to find out why I am blocked from my own web site (grumble... my ISP).

Oh no!

If you can figure out from the headers what the ip adress is of the guy spoofing your e-mail address, try to send an e-mail stating your problem and the fact that a customer of theirs is doing something illegal to that isp's abuse address.

NoKey does all of this for our e-mail addresses. He swears by using Spamcop for all spam received and is down on anyone's asses who does Nasty Things to our e-mail. He's the kind of guy that writes mail-bomb scripts to get back at people.

You have my sympathies. It happens to me every so often. I'd probably better check and make sure it hasn't happened again.
